Budget Inn Renovation
A proposal to renovate the former Budget Inn will be heard on Thursday March 13 th at 6 PM by the Stockton Blvd Redevelopment Advisory Committee. The Budget Inn, privately owned, has been a neighborhood problem for many years with frequent police calls. Mercy Housing plans to purchase it, renovate it and provide permanent housing for disabled, formerly homeless persons as part of Sacramento's Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.
If approved, the 102-room motel, located at 5321 Stockton Boulevard, would be converted into 74 permanent apartments, one manager's unit and onsite counseling facilities. The apartment complex will have professional staff on site and each resident will be eligible for voluntary, ongoing social services. It will be a joint project by two highly respected, local non-profits with extensive track records of success: Mercy Housing who will do the renovation and provide property management services and The Effort who will provide the supportive services. As you may know, Mercy Housing is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, Sister Libby's religious order.
If you'd like to find out more about the project or show your support, please come. It will be helpful to the Revelopment Advisory Council and to Councilwoman Lauren Hammond, who represents the area, to hear from those who do support this worthwhile effort.
