Trauma and Disaster
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' National Center for PTSD, there are different types of traumatic violence. Community violence occurs when a person lives in a community where violence is often prevalent. Mass violence includes events such as the Virginia Tech shootings. The psychological affects following mass violence are more similar to those following terrorism or disaster. The National Center for PTSD has published the following resources for care providers and individuals affected by mass violence.
